Reports this week confirm that the British continue to represent the highest percentage of foreign tourists to Spain. Murcia Today describes it as the British love affair with Spain, but however you look at it, despite the recession, we still love to head off to the sunny climate which Spain guarantees.
Last year, a massive 13, 653, 864 British tourists visited Spain – this represents 23.7% of total international visitors and an increase from 2011.
As the sunniest mainland area of Spain, Murcia still has plenty to offer foreign holiday makers – it’s not just the sun, though, villas with private pools are excellent value for money on the Costa Calida too and a great place for a family holiday!

The Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced that general VAT would be raised from 18% to 21% to combat the country’s growing economic difficulties.
VAT for the leisure industry, will increase from 8% to 10%, including accommodation, food and drink at restaurants, hotels and bar
The VAT rise was widely criticised by the Spanish Tourism Commission.
“The tourism sector regrets the government’s lack of sensitivity for a strategic sector that is key to kick-starting and accelerating Spain’s economic recovery,” it said in a statement.
The industry had previously asked the Spanish government to freeze VAT for the tourism sector.
Sean Tipton of ABTA described the move as “very short-sighted.”
