Recent history of Murcia, Spain

November 17th, 2011

For years the region of Murcia did not have the easy access of the other regions. However, recently the Region of Murcia has gained grants from the EU which has been wisely spent on a system of new roads. Also in the past few years Murcia airport (San Javier) has become increasingly popular with low cost airlines from the UK. Murcia has looked at the Costa del Sol to the South and the southern Costa Blanca to the North and has learned much from the overbuilding in those areas. Murcia therefore, has very strict planning laws that are aimed at protecting the beauty of the region and it has established several natural parks.

Yes there is development here, but the majority of this is on World class golf resorts such as La Torre, El Valle and Mar Menor golf resorts. Which all have beautiful, luxury apartments and villas with private pools to rent. No High-Rise properties are allowed and parks and green areas have to be left within developments. Murcia is growing fast, especially with the new Paramount theme park and LifeStyle Centre being built in the region.

But don’t take our word for it, come and see for yourselves!

Spanish holiday homes avoid rental tax

September 22nd, 2011

It has been highlighted that a huge number of holiday rental owners have been successfully dodging tax on their properties, many for a number of years. A government crackdown is planned after it was revealed that approximately 3 billion euros had been made in undeclared rentals. More than half of those who have rented their properties are reported to have avoided paying tax.

It has always been fairly easy to cheat the system as there have been few measures in place to monitor the holiday business. Furthermore, as many payments are made in cash, the crime is virtually undetectable. But this is set to change, with the government using all at its disposal to discover the tax evaders. Holiday rentals sites on the internet will make it easier to find those renting their property out, and a simple phone call to the owner will allow key details to be revealed.

Of course, in some cases owners are not purposefully trying to break the law. Many are confused by the current system and are unaware of the exact laws surrounding their properties. Tax should be paid on 50% of the income from renting but many feel that they are not given enough help or support by the authorities on the right courses of action.

Spain remains the top choice for those looking for holiday rentals so it’s clear that as a destination it is consistently appealing. Once a system is put in place that is fair and easy for both rental owners and the authorities, Spain is sure to become an even more popular choice.
