Manchester trials naked airport scanner

Manchester airport is to trial a controversial naked scanner, which will reduce the time needed for security checks while passengers make their way to their boarding gates and onward flights.
Controversial for the fact that they produce a very clear black and white body image, that fully reveals each passengers’ private areas, visible piercings and breast implants, the airport has stressed that the images are in no way meant to be rude and that they are destroyed once they have served their purpose.
The Head of Customer Experience at the airport, Sarah Barrett, said most passengers did not like the traditional ‘pat down’ searches and the new machine, which is currently operating at the airport’s terminal 2, means passengers no longer have to take off their shoes, belts and coats or be searched by hand while they make there way through security checks.
Already being rolled out in US airports as an effective and efficient security measure, each scanner made by RapiScan costs £80,000.
