Kiss Flights ceases trading, third holiday company in the last month

Following the lead of holiday companies Sun4U and Goldtrail, another travel firm has gone bust leaving 13,000 people stranded around Europe. Kiss Flights ceased trading on the 17th August 2010, after it did not receive the holiday bookings expected for August and September. The company deals with destinations in Greece, Egypt, Turkey and the Spanish Canary Islands. So far this year, 13 travel companies have gone bust in the UK as a result of the recession, leading people to holiday at home, combined with the volcanic ash cloud that lost the aviation and travel industries millions. Recently, Sun4U left 1200 holidaymakers stranded in Spain, whilst 14,000 were trapped abroad after Goldtrail went bust. The Civil Aviation Authority, CAA, has stated that the majority of people who have booked with Kiss Flights will get a refund, but only time will tell if the travel industry as a whole will have so positive an outcome. As customer confidence plummets due to numerous budget cuts and a ‘tightening of the belt’ attitude, many more companies may be the victim of the current climate.

Nevertheless, owners that self advertise and independently rent villas with pools or apartments in countries like Spain have seen a surge of interest in the last minute, cheap holiday rentals market.
