2012: Murcia International Airport to open

The new international airport for Murcia is to be completed on time later this year. Officials have said that Corvera Airport will be fully operational as early as spring 2012.
A three-shift programme has seen over 500 workers working thought the night and day to accomplish tasks to schedule. Many features of the airport are now completed, such as the passenger nine-gate terminal and the 32m control tower. Nearing completion are the runway and aircraft parking apron; internal aspects such as air conditioning, security systems and wiring and plumbing are also yet to be completed.
Details regarding which airlines will operate from Corvera International Airport have not yet been released. José Ballesta, the Minister for Public Works, has said there are airlines interested in operating at the airport, but these are subject to a confidentiality agreement, and will not become public until shortly before the airport becomes operational.
It’s prime location is also just twenty minutes away from the proposed Paramount Pictures theme park, due to commence construction soon. Prospective property investors and Murcia villa owners with holiday rentals and property located on Polaris World resorts such as El Valle, Mar Menor and La Torre Golf Resort are set to benefit from the predicted increase in tourist volume to the Murcia area, with the new airport creating more flexible flights.
