An agreement has been formally signed to establish the civil aviation in the Region of Murcia, announcing that all flights that currently use San Javier airport will transfer to the New Covera airport once it opens. Numerous talks have taken place between all parties involved since the unsigned agreement was reached on 19th September 2011.

This document finally being signed guarantees the future of the Covera Airport regardless of the outcome of the upcoming general election.  The agreement was signed on 16th November 2011 by Antonio Sevilla (regional Minister of public works) and Isaias Taboas (the Secretary of state for transport).

The contract also confirms that the airport will be managed by Aena and that all employees that are currently working at San Javier will also be transferred to Covera, meaning that their jobs are safe. All parties concerned understand the great importance of this project for the economic development in the region, as well as for the people living in the area and the companies working in it.
